Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Hong Kong on June 30, 2022, at the start of his two-day visit to mark the 25th anniversary of the city’s July 1 return to Chinese rule. In his arrival speech, Xi said that since his last visit in 2017 Hong Kong had “risen from the ashes” after overcoming severe challenges, proving that “one country, two systems” is a good principle.
