China builds Mars simulation base in desert to train for exploring the red planet

As part of its preparation for Mars exploration, China has built a “Mars Camp” in Lenghu Town of the northwestern Qinghai Province to simulate the red planet’s environment. The eerily eroded desert landscape found in the red rock area of the Qaidam basin has been helping scientists gain a better understanding of what to expect on Mars at the same time it has provided scientific education for tourists.
