Race Three : (594) - THISTLE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters
Horse No 1 SURE JOYFUL (G125) M Chadwick After the event, M Chadwick confirmed that the instructions were to take up a forward position.
He said after obtaining a position with cover behind the leaders SURE JOYFUL came under pressure along the Back Straight and finished the race off only fairly in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 THESIS (H111) Y L Chung Approaching the 1500 Metres was steadied to avoid AMAZING AWARD when being shifted behind that runner.
After the event, Y L Chung stated that his mount settled back in the field and found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 DILBAGH (K055) A Badel From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 6 AMAZING AWARD (J236) K Teetan Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 7 MUSANG KING (K068) K C Leung A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 9 OWNERS' PRAISE (H047) K De Melo Jumped only fairly.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 10 ICONICAL (J504) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 12 SMILING EMPEROR (J371) L Hewitson After the event, L Hewitson stated that the intention was to hold a handy position.
He said SMILING EMPEROR jumped only fairly and as a result settled further back in the field than intended.
He said SMILING EMPEROR raced too keenly throughout the early and middle stages and after being crowded on the Home Turn when racing tight between THESIS and STORMI (C L Chau) which shifted out, his mount was unable to finish the race off thereafter.
C L Chau was advised to exercise more care.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Iconical led and never looked back from gate four for a first win at his seventh start. The step up to 1,650m and riding change to Zac Purton worked the oracle after a trial win in Conghua. Owners' Praise ran on nicely near the inside to grab second after settling behind midfield on the fence following a tardy start. It was his best effort from seven starts. Stormi charged home late through the middle for third after making his run towards the rear. It was a much-improved performance with a return to the Valley at his second run down in Class Four. Early favourite Amazing Award ran on near the outside for fourth after a wide-without-cover trip travelling four from the rear. It was another honest performance. Lucky Sam Gor ran on steadily for fifth after a rails run from midfield. He's still a work in progress but has secured fourth or fifth prize money in four of five starts across both tracks. Von Baer just plodded after getting all favours in the box seat. He hasn't disgraced in three straight runs following a downgrade but will likely need to drop further in the handicaps. Favourite Thesis never threatening from near the rear.
