Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the 37-year-old daughter of billionaire Thaksin Shinawatra, will become Thailand’s next prime minister. It came after she sailed through a vote of lower house lawmakers on August 16, 2024, two days after a court dismissed her predecessor, Srettha Thavisin, in an ethics case. Once formally appointed by the Thai king, Paetongtarn will become the country’s youngest-ever leader.
