Humans may not be far off from a future that allows people to design their own bodies, after a Japanese-French research group developed a robotic sixth finger. The six-year project involved studying how the brain would perceive the extra digit. The robotic limb relies on electrical signals generated from the muscles that a motor receives for controlling the movement. The researchers are now examining if the new finger would induce any changes to the brain.
