The head of the Unification Church in Japan has vowed to fight a court order revoking the organisation’s legal protections. Tomihiro Tanaka, the Japanese president of the group, now known as the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, said the court’s order was an attack on religious freedom. The March 25, 2025, ruling and Tanaka’s response two days later followed a scandal over fundraising practices and links to the assassination of former prime minister Shinzo Abe.
