Six-time Group One winner Voyage Bubble and Sunlight Power must pass two veterinary inspections this week to be cleared to run in Sunday’s Group One Champions Mile at Sha Tin.
The Jockey Club’s head of veterinary regulation, welfare and biosecurity policy, Dr Bronte Forbes, reported on Tuesday that routine pre-race inspections revealed Ricky Yiu Poon-fai’s gallopers both developed a capped elbow in one of their front legs.
“Dr Forbes advised that both horses are currently subject to veterinary management and will be monitored in the following days,” Jockey Club chief steward Marc van Gestel said in a statement.
“A further veterinary inspection will be undertaken of Voyage Bubble and Sunlight Power by a veterinary officer on the morning of Thursday, 23 April 2026 and Saturday, 25 April 2026 to determine their suitability to race.”
Yiu told stewards “he is currently satisfied with the level of fitness of both horses and has limited their training programme whilst under veterinary management”.

One of the leading fancies for the Champions Mile, Voyage Bubble produced an uncharacteristically poor run last month when a distant fifth behind Romantic Warrior in the Group One Gold Cup (2,000m).
Last year’s Triple Crown hero bounced back with a sound third in his latest start behind Lucky Sweynesse and My Wish in the Group Two Chairman’s Trophy (1,600m).
If he is cleared to start, he will race in blinkers for the first time after Yiu opted for the crucial gear change.
Voyage Bubble, who ran a close second to Red Lion in last year’s Champions Mile, galloped on the Sha Tin turf last Thursday but has been limited to trotting and swimming since.
Sunlight Power has had the same routine since running sixth in a Sha Tin dirt trial last Thursday. He ran third in last year’s Champions Mile.
