Danny Shum Chap-shing has high hopes of Copartner Ambition claiming the HK$1.5 million DBS x Manulife Million Challenge at Happy Valley on Wednesday night.
In career-best form this season with four wins at the city circuit, Copartner Ambition heads into the final meeting of the Million Challenge on 45 points with absent stablemate Chill Chibi (49) in his sights.
The competition is for horses running in Class Three and above at the Valley between September and February with 15 points awarded for a win, six for second, four for third and three for fourth. The winning connections will collect HK$1 million.
Shum is confident Copartner Ambition can continue his top form in the Class Three Sing Woo Handicap (1,200m), with Andrea Atzeni booked to ride the six-year-old.
“Of course, we want to win it,” Shum said of the Million Challenge. “Andrea has won on him so hopefully we can get it done. Actually last season he wasn’t bad, but three times he drew 12 at Happy Valley.
“It was ridiculous. But he was still running well and then he dropped into Class Four and he was on the right mark to start winning.”
Majestic Knight (42 points), Son Pak Fu (39), Tourbillon Prince (37) and Tomodachi Kokoroe (36) are the other gallopers in action on Wednesday night who are capable of winning the Million Challenge.
