Trainer Richard Gibson said he would wait to see where Mizani's owner wanted to go after the Irish-bred won on debut in the final event, but jockey Olivier Doleuze left his wish list in no doubt.

"I don't know what Richard wants to do next but, inside, I am hoping it is the Classic Mile," grinned Doleuze after Mizani overcame a wide run, a muddling tempo and won under top weight in the 1,400m Class Three as his opening statement in Hong Kong.

"The Classic Mile is only two weeks from now, but I didn't have to kill the horse today and it would be nice to have a ride in the Group One," said Doleuze. "I came confident he would run well, but if you look at the percentage of horses which win first start here with 133 pounds, it's not many. I would have been happy if he ran a place but he has gone even better than that."

Gibson, who enjoyed a late double after winning the eighth race on the all-weather with stable stalwart Turin Champion (Eddy Lai Wai-ming), said he wasn't committing Mizani to anything in the aftermath of the race.

"I have to see how the horse comes through it, and sit down to talk with the owner about what he wants to do, so although you could say we have ambitious plans for the horse and I think he'll be better as he gets over further.

"What that means for his next assignment isn't clear right now," Gibson said. "That was pretty impressive and full credit to Olivier - he's had a lot of faith in Mizani ever since he got here."

Doleuze has been aboard in both the barrier trials by Mizani, who raced under the same name for the Aga Khan in Ireland, and said he has "always liked him".

"I like him, he's come to hand so fast. I got on him in a mile trial here the first time and he didn't look ready, so I waited and he gave me something at the end of it," Doleuze said. "Then he woke up a lot in his trackwork before he trialled again, this time on the dirt and it was very good. He's a lovely, quiet, very professional horse and he has very good acceleration. What he did today is not easy to do and it's great to see these horses Richard has bought coming out and doing so well."

If Mizani did go to the Classic Mile, it would give Gibson two chances in the race, with Gold-Fun having already established himself as one of the favourites with two wins from three starts.

Ambitious targets were not on the agenda for Turin Champion, but the gelding has more than paid his way since joining Gibson last year, with four all-weather wins now to his credit, and he gave Lai his first win since late October after the popular local jockey spent much of the last 21/2 months out with careless-riding bans.

"Turin Champion is a fantastic horse to train, he's rarely far from the money," Gibson said. "Eddy's had some bad luck with suspensions but he gave him a great ride - he had him out of the gates better than usual and he really nailed it."
