Not only is this a huge step forward for Asian representation in American media, but it’s the perfect role for Liu, a martial arts fan currently known for his role as Jung on Netflix show Kim’s Convenience. He’s also active on social media, often posting hilarious messages and videos for his fans.

A popular Facebook group composed of people of Asian descent living in Canada, the US, Australia, and other countries around the world, Subtle Asian Traits (SAT) is known for its jokes about bubble tea and parent expectations. Liu, who has posted in the group before, surprised SAT members on Wednesday, just a few days after being announced as Shang-chi, with this post, which has since been deleted:
"Thanks for getting back to me"
In December 2018, Liu posted a shoutout to Marvel saying "Are we gonna talk or what #ShangChi" and replied to his own tweet on July 21 with "Thanks for getting back to me."
