South Island School sets the bar with historic five victories
A Grade Basketball Boys team and their coaches.We are proud to announce a stunning sequence of sporting successes at South Island School. On Thursday, December 11, in the final of the A Grade Rugby Boys Interschool Rugby Competition at HK Foodball Club, SIS scored a convincing win over Hong Kong International School (69 – 5). This result extended the team’s current dominance of senior HK schools rugby by winning their third consecutive championship!
Not to be outdone, the following evening, SIS Basketball teams took to the court in all four of the Boys and Girls ESF league championship games at A and B grade levels. Remarkable and uniquely, all four teams won their championship finals, concluding with an exhilarating and nail-biting comeback-win for the A Grade Boys team in the final seconds of their game to make it a clean sweep. It is an unprecedented accomplishment by South Island School and brings this year’s basketball season to a historic conclusion.
One of the most notable performances was that of Tak Yung Lee, captain of the A Grade Boys Basketball Team, who suffered a nasty ankle twist about halfway through the final. After intensive ice-pack treatment he returned to play a crucial part, late in the game. His effort was a credit to his team and the school as he played through the pain to guide the team to victory.
School principal, Graham Silverthorne was proud and delighted. “Five wins out of five in just 24 hours has been a remarkable sequence. The quality of the performances we have seen, from all of the sides involved, has been superb. These achievements are not exam results or university places, but without a shadow of a doubt they help build the character and skill-set that leads to success. I thank the teams, their coaches, and our parent supporters for making this possible. An extraordinary couple of days for SIS.”
