Hong Kong schools went all out to raise money for Operation Santa Claus
Fundraising activities range from food festivals and reindeer relay races to singing competitions
This year's Operation Santa Claus, co-organised by the South China Morning Post and RTHK, got a big boost from activities organised by schools. These events raised HK$208,627 for the charity drive, which ends tomorrow.
The biggest donation came from Discovery Mind Kindergarten, which raised HK$135,000 with its 10th annual sponsored hike.
But plenty of other schools had creative ways to make money. Brandon Learning Centre held The Brandon Show - a public speaking performance - while at Shung Tak Catholic English College's Fancy Franks for Funds, students could buy hot dogs for lunch on December 4, and enjoy a mini fun-fair and singing competition on December 11.
Korean International School held a Santa Fun Day on December 4 featuring more than 30 games and activities, including an event where students dressed up as reindeer and raced, and a Christmas version of pin the tail on the donkey, called Rudolph's Nose.
American International School held its annual Red and Green Day on December 11, where students and teachers dressed in red and green clothes for a minimum donation of HK$20.
Kiangsu & Chekiang Primary School (International Section) sold 2016 calendars designed by students, and reusable bags and plates, with all proceeds going to OSC.
Yuen Long Public Secondary School organised two fund-raising activities: a food fest on December 17, where some teachers, students, and PTA members cooked a feast in the playground; and a singing marathon the following day where students sang English songs.
