Singapore held its 14th general election since independence on May 3, 2025. The election is the first under Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The ruling People’s Action Party (PAP), led by Wong, seeks a strong mandate amid an escalating tariff war threatening the country’s open economy. The nine-day campaigning period started on April 23, followed by a “cooling-off day” on May 2 before voting began. A total of 97 seats will be contested, including 15 single-seat wards and 18 group representation constituencies (GRCs). Multi-seat constituencies must include at least one non-Chinese candidate to ensure diverse representation in parliament.
