Why has Hong Kong been hit so hard by the Covid-19 fifth wave?

Hong Kong is in the midst of its worst Covid-19 wave to date, recording the world’s highest coronavirus death rate and pushing an overstretched health care system to the brink. As the government pledged to focus on vaccinating the elderly and bringing down the number of deaths, the Post’s Alkira Reinfrank speaks to government pandemic adviser Dr David Hui, who’s director of the Stanley Ho Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases, about why Hong Kong was seemingly caught unprepared even after two years of the pandemic.
