Hong Kong’s cardboard grannies left to fend for themselves

Cardboard grannies are part of the elderly left behind by the yet-to-improve retirement and ageing security systems, as well as by an economy with highly limited re-employment for senior citizens, who are forced to fend for themselves.

Cardboard picking is not considered a job or a part of the formal recycling economy in Hong Kong, which means the grannies have little official protection.
