China’s foreign minister said Beijing expects the Taliban to play an important role in the Afghanistan peace, reconciliation and reconstruction process. Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian also quoted Foreign Minister and State Councillor Wang Yi as describing the withdrawal of US and NATO troops as a policy failure. Wang made his remarks during talks with a nine-member delegation led by the Taliban’s chief negotiator and co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in the northern city of Tianjin on July 28, 2021.
