Landmark Shenzhen skyscraper sways, sparking emergency evacuation

A skyscraper in downtown Shenzhen, China started swaying, sparking the evacuation of thousands of people on May 18, 2021. The building is reportedly the SEG Plaza, a 79-storey structure that’s 20 years old. Authorities are looking into the cause of the incident, but the Shenzhen Emergency Management Bureau noted there was no earthquake activity in the city at the time of the incident. Local weather reports showed the wind speed in Shenzhen at the time was only 27km/h (17 miles), a speed unlikely to shake high-rise buildings.
