A Vietnamese appeal court shortened the jail sentence of tycoon Truong My Lan from life to 30 years on April 21, 2025. The 68-year-old was found guilty in October 2024 of laundering US$17 billion and illegal cross-border trafficking worth US$4.5 billion, as well as bond fraud totalling US$1.2 billion. Truong still faces a death sentence in a separate US$27 billion fraud case if she fails to return three-quarters of the stolen assets.
