Afghanistan after the US withdrawal

Inside look at abandoned Bagram airbase where US ran its main Afghanistan detention centre

Taliban fighters have vowed revenge after visiting an abandoned detention centre at the former US airbase in Bagram, Afghanistan. The prison is infamous for allegations of torture and detention without trial during its time under the control of US and former Afghan government forces. The facility had been used to imprison Taliban fighters, as well as Afghan civilians and Taliban sympathisers who were considered dangerous. Many prisoners forced their way out when the Taliban seized control of the country, while others who had not been able to break free were later released by the hardline group.
