Witnesses recount Himalayan flash flood from burst glacier as rescue work continues

On February 7, 2021, a portion of a Himalayan glacier broke off in the northern state of Uttarakhand, India, plunging into a river and triggering a flash flood. At least 31 people were killed and as many as 175 listed as missing. As part of the rescue efforts, hundreds of troops were sent to the region in military helicopters to look for survivors, while local residents were evacuated.
