Recap by phillip woo

Northern Fire Ball cleared Spicy Spangle to lead 950m out and kept finding for a second win over the Valley 1,200m this term. He will likely find things tougher in Class Three. Giddy Up ran on nicely for second after a rails run from midfield. It was a solid effort following a downgrade and step up in distance at just his second run back following a break. Loveisintheair wove a run from behind midfield for third after a tardy start. He's naturally coming to hand in his three starts and should be winning in no time. Spicy Spangle only plodded after a box-seat run from gate three. He couldn't offset a rise in weight following a win. Glory Cloud ran on steadily for fifth after a one-off trip from better than midfield. He's a limited type. Chill Master ran on without threatening after a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was a better effort at his fourth start. Same To You got going late down the outside after settling last from gate 12. Sensationally-backed Team Happy had an excuse after a prominent run wide without cover the entire trip from gate 11. Favourite Triumphant Warrior never got into the act two from the rear.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (573) - KING'S PARK HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 GIDDY UP (J020) B Avdulla After the 250 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the outside of SPICY SPANGLE when that runner shifted to the outside of NORTHER FIRE BALL to obtain clear running.

In this incident, GIDDY UP made contact with TEAM HAPPY.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 NORTHERN FIRE BALL (J488) C L Chau Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 MASTER OF HUMOR (K281) Y L Chung On jumping was bumped by ORIENTAL SURPRISE.

After the 1100 Metres was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.

Was left racing wide and without cover from the 600 Metres.

Horse No 4 LOVEISINTHEAIR (J550) H Bowman When questioned, H Bowman stated that from an inside barrier his instructions were, if possible to hold a slightly more forward position.

He said LOVEISINTHEAIR jumped awkwardly, made contact with the right side of its barrier and as a result settled a little further back than intended.

When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight H Bowman stated that LOVEISINTHEAIR, which was having its third race start, did not appreciate racing amongst horses and as a result he was reluctant to force his mount to improve between NORTHERN FIRE BALL and SPICY SPANGLE.

He said when he observed NORTHERN FIRE BALL to shift out away from the rail near the 200 Metres he then considered allowing his mount to improve to the inside of NORTHERN FIRE BALL as it was already shifting in towards the running rail.

He said when NORTHERN FIRE BALL did not leave sufficient room for LOVEISINTHEAIR to improve to its inside he was obliged to stop riding with the whip and direct LOVEISINTHEAIR to the outside of NORTHERN FIRE BALL approaching the 50 Metres to ensure his mount obtained clear running to the finish.

After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bowman were reasonable in the circumstances.

Horse No 5 SPICY SPANGLE (J087) A Hamelin Over the concluding stages was eased when crowded between LOVEISINTHEAIR and GIDDY UP (B Avdulla) which shifted in.

B Avdulla was advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 6 CHILL MASTER (J319) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 ORIENTAL SURPRISE (K028) E C W Wong Bumped at the start.

After the event, Apprentice E C W Wong reported that with blinkers being applied to the horse he was asked to take up a more forward position.

Horse No 9 COSMO NAVIGATOR (H156) M F Poon Approaching the first turn near the 1000 Metres was steadied to avoid TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR when racing keenly.

Horse No 10 TEAM HAPPY (J218) L Hewitson When caught wide and without cover in the early stages was ridden forward near the 600 Metres to cross ORIENTAL SURPRISE and race outside the lead.

Near the 250 Metres was bumped by GIDDY UP.

Horse No 11 TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR (H430) K Teetan Leaving the 1100 Metres made contact with MASTER OF HUMOR and became unbalanced as it was being shifted behind that runner to obtain cover.

After the event, K Teetan reported that his mount raced too keenly in the early and middle stages and as a result did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.

Trainer C S Shum stated that TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR was disadvantaged by racing keenly throughout the event which restricted its ability to run on in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 SAME TO YOU (H057) A Atzeni After the event, A Atzeni reported that from the outside barrier he was instructed to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages.

Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued.
