Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Mugen weaved run between runners mid-straight to win going away 50m out after settling last from gate 10 in a suitably run race with step up to 1,400m. It was his third win from four starts. Super Boy just held onto second by a nose after claiming the front 200m out following a prominent run chasing a genuine pace. He was able to back up a near win last start in Class Three. Atullibigeal finished nicely to just miss second after a patient ride one from the rear. It was another honest effort. Favourite Dancing Code closed off reasonably well for fourth after a rails run from behind midfield. It was another genuine effort with a step back to 1,400m. Red Lion stayed on all right after a one-off trip from midfield. He wasn't good enough carrying top weight. Howdeepisyourlove ran on without threatening down the outside after settling wide towards the rear from a tricky gate. He had an excuse. Punted late Drombeg Banner finished next best after getting pressured for the front from an awkward gate. Global Harmony was deemed a start after staying in the gate on his own accord. He cost punters.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (359) - TIN WAN SHAN HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 RED LION (H115) H Bowman After passing the 200 Metres was bumped by DANCING CODE.

Horse No 2 HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE (H093) J McDonald Inconvenienced at the start.

Horse No 3 SAUVESTRE (E315) L Ferraris A veterinary inspection immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Horse No 4 FLAMING RABBIT (H257) Y L Chung A Atzeni (DROMBEG BANNER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 850 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of FLAMING RABBIT, resulting in FLAMING RABBIT having to be checked.

A Atzeni was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 7 February 2024 at Happy Valley.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record.

Passing the 200 Metres was inconvenienced when bumped by SUPERB BOY which shifted in under pressure before being straightened by its rider.

Horse No 5 DROMBEG BANNER (H117) A Atzeni Shifted out and away from RED LION at the start and in doing so caused some crowding to HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE, MUGEN and to a lesser extent BRAVEHEARTS.

A Atzeni pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 850 Metres (see FLAMING RABBIT).

Horse No 6 ATULLIBIGEAL (G173) Z Purton Slow to begin.

Held up for a short distance rounding the Home Turn.

Horse No 7 DANCING CODE (G365) C Y Ho Slow to begin.

Horse No 9 BRAVEHEARTS (H389) A Hamelin Slow to begin and then was inconvenienced at the start.

Raced wide and without cover for the major part of the race.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.

Horse No 10 GLOBAL HARMONY (G337) L Hewitson The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if GLOBAL HARMONY had been afforded a fair start.

On the evidence, it was established that as the start was effected, GLOBAL HARMONY stood in the barriers and refused to jump.

As the Stewards formed the opinion that GLOBAL HARMONY had not had an unfair start, the horse was declared a runner.

Before being allowed to race again, GLOBAL HARMONY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a series of consecutive barrier trials.

Horse No 11 SUPERB BOY (G335) A Badel Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 MUGEN (H338) K Teetan Whilst in the saddling stalls, MUGEN had its right front plate refitted.

Rounding the Home Turn was held up for clear running and was shifted back in near the 400 Metres to gain an uninterrupted run to the line.

Sent for sampling post-race.
