Recap by phillip woo
Favourite Sunny Star just held on for the win after hitting the front 80m out following a box-seat run. He continues to raise the bar and will remain a contender off a light weight if he leaves the grade. Smoothies made it close on the wire while just holding the fast-finishing Surrealism for second following a one-off run fore of midfield. He has been building towards a win. Surrealism came from last and down the outside to make it very interesting on the wire. It was another solid effort after filling the frame in his past two runs and can bob up at any moment. Gallant Crown ran on well after settling third last in a small field to finish a close fourth. He's run with merit in back-to-back runs in this grade following three wins. Punted late Telecom Fighters was swamped in the last 50m after swinging a length on top leading from the 1,300m. The rise in weight for a last-start win took its toll. Smiling City ran on without menacing from towards the rear. He's not reliable. Fearless Fire came up one-paced following a rail run in midfield. He's had a fine campaign but wasn't good enough with a rise in class. Royal Bomb was gone 200m out after a pace-stalking run. He likely needed the run off a 63-day break.
