Racing Incident Report
Race Eight: (282) - CHAI WAN KOK HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1650Meters
HEZTHEWONFORUS and GRACEANDMERCY made contact at the start, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
From a wide barrier, HAPPY DRAGON was shifted across behind runners soon after the start to obtain cover.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPER TURBO shifted in and raced tight against the hindquarters of GRACEANDMERCY.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, RACING FIGHTER was steadied when racing in restricted room inside HARMONY HERO which was racing tight inside GRACEANDMERCY.
Passing the 200 Metres, HAPPY DRAGON shifted out and made contact with THE HULK, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
GRACEANDMERCY travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that in accordance with his instructions he took up a forward position on THE HULK and initially settled comfortably outside the hindquarters of the leader HEZTHEWONFORUS.
He said when BUTTERFIELD improved around THE HULK at the 1000 Metres, THE HULK continued to travel comfortably behind BUTTERFIELD.
He said however that THE HULK did not give any response when brought to the outside of BUTTERFIELD at the entrance to the Straight and was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close off the race.
Trainer C Fownes reported that immediately upon returning to the scale he noted that THE HULK was making a harsh breathing noise and there was evidence that the horse got its tongue over the bit.
Mr Fownes advised the Stewards that he intended to experiment with a tongue tie on THE HULK.
A veterinary inspection of THE HULK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BAND OF BROTHERS, PRIVATE SECRETARY and HAPPY DRAGON were sent for sampling.

Private Secretary took the short route home travelling better than midfield to grab victory 150m out. It's always tough for a newcomer to win first-up at the Valley but he did arrive with solid form up to 2,200m in Britain and looks to have a bright future. Happy Dragon closed nicely to grab second after settling behind midfield on the fence following a tardy break. He has been racing well over this Valley trip. Band Of Brothers got up travelling one off worse than midfield to fill a placing. Butterfield grudgingly gave way after driving forward to lead one-off outside the late-plunged Hezthewonforus 900m out in an improved effort at only his third start. Harmony Hero ran on without menacing from beyond midfield. Good Omen ran on all right but left things too late sitting last from a tricky gate. Super Oasis ran on without menacing after a deep run fourth from the rear from gate 12. The Hulk was stopping 150m out after a one-out, one-back run.
