Recap by phillip woo

They were well spaced out in the run but Unique Joyous quickly made up six lengths travelling in midfield to won going away approaching the 200m. He had come down plenty after winning four on the trot last season and did run a good race two back in his initial appearance on the dirt so a big run was no surprise. Favourite Travel Ambassador finished nicely four from the rear to get up nicely for second. He's hitting the line well in his past five starts after a Valley win in December and will be winning shortly. Born Dragon doesn't run out a strong mile but still hung on for third after finding the front 1,350m out. Plunged late, The Full Bloom kept grinding away following a prominent run and may need 1,800m on this surface. Gold Dragon ran on from beyond midfield but the 1,800m suits him better. Star Superior gave way 150m out after sitting a distant second in the run. He needs to drop further in the handicaps. Good For You got going late by beaten rivals after travelling third from the rear from a wide gate in his dirt debut. He's not easy to get right. Silly Buddies was eased down a long way from home.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (547)-SHA KOK HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Metres

BALAY BALAY was withdrawn on 3.4.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence).

Before being allowed to race again, BALAY BALAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

PEARL FURU was crowded for room on jumping between THE FULL BLOOM and SILLY BUDDIES which shifted out.

HELEN??S CHOICE shifted out at the start and bumped GOLD DRAGON.

On jumping, GOOD FOR YOU got its head up when being steadied in order to be shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier.

A short distance after the start, VICTORY MUSIC, which was being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover, got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly, resulting in TRAVEL AMBASSADOR being checked and GOOD FOR YOU, which was continuing to travel ungenerously, being taken out onto HONG KONG CAPTAIN which was hampered.

HONG KONG CAPTAIN was then also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After the race, K Teetan reported that VICTORY MUSIC hung out throughout the race.

A veterinary inspection of VICTORY MUSIC immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Approaching the 300 Metres, THE FULL BLOOM was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of UNIQUE JOYOUS.

When questioned, B Prebble (BORN DRAGON) stated that having been instructed to lead, he rode his mount along shortly after the start and then attempted to steady it passing the winning post on the first occasion.

He said when he did this BORN DRAGON got its head up and commenced to travel keenly.

He said after obtaining the lead near the rail passing the 1400 Metres, BORN DRAGON, which was stepping up in distance tonight, continued to travel keenly and lay out away from the rail.

He added he felt that had he have employed any stronger measures in an attempt to steady the horse, having regard to its high head carriage, BORN DRAGON would have proved even more difficult to settle and as the horse was travelling as comfortably as it could, in the circumstances he allowed it to continue on rather than fight against it.

When questioned, Apprentice K K Chiong stated that passing the 1300 Metres she commenced to have concerns regarding the action of SILLY BUDDIES as the horse did not appear to be striding out comfortably.

She said shortly after entering the Back Straight near the 1200 Metres, she commenced to ease SILLY BUDDIES out of the race, however, as the horse was travelling strongly, it took her some time to be able to ease it right down.

Apprentice Chiong was advised that in similar circumstances where she has genuine concern over the welfare of her mount, she musts retire it from the race as promptly as is possible.

A veterinary inspection of SILLY BUDDIES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, SILLY BUDDIES will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

UNIQUE JOYOUS and TRAVEL AMBASSADOR were sent for sampling.
