Post-time favourite Excellence came on strongly after a patient ride third from the rear approaching the final bend to wear down Soul Achiever 100m out for a second trip success this term. He's raised the bar following a return to Class Four and might be good for another at this level. Soul Achiever poked his head in front 150m out after a rail run in midfield and came home a clear second. He's not far off a winning run but does need everything to go his way. Casa Master took off from the rear at the 700m to get to third 400m out and kept plugging away to just hold a placing. It was a decent effort but he's near his mark. Gobi Storm stayed on reasonably well despite getting shuffled back coming to the final bend following a midfield run outside Soul Achiever to just miss a placing. He's shown progress in his past two runs with a step up to a mile from six starts but likely prefers an even longer trip. Smart Salute was yielding ground 100m out after working a bit through solid early fractions to find the front 1,150m out from a tricky gate. He still needs to lift at this level but may prefer to be ridden held up. Sparkling Sword had excuses after working hard without cover three deep until the 1,000m from a wide gate.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (476)-THE HONG KONG FOOTBALL CLUB CENTENARY CHALLENGE CUP(HANDICAP) (Sec1) - Class 4 - 1650Metres

KIROV was withdrawn on 6.3.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left front foot).

Before being allowed to race again, KIROV will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

ROBUST MOMENTUM and CASA MASTER bumped at the start.

Shortly after the start, SOUL ACHIEVER shifted in and bumped GREAT TREASURE.

From the outside barrier, MEGATRON was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, GREAT TREASURE was hampered when crowded for room between EASTERN PROWESS and MEGATRON (K Teetan) which shifted in.

K Teetan was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MEGATRON, which was travelling keenly, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of EXCELLENCE which was steadied to avoid the heels of GOBI STORM.

SPARKLING SWORD travelled wide and without cover until passing the 1100 Metres.

After the 800 Metres, CASA MASTER was left racing wide and without cover.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, ROCKET LET WIN momentarily raced in restricted room inside SPARKLING SWORD which lay in.

Passing the 500 Metres, EXCELLENCE shifted out and bumped GREAT TREASURE.

Approaching the 450 Metres, ROCKET LET WIN got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of SPARKLING SWORD.

SOUL ACHIEVER, which was following ROCKET LET WIN, was held up behind that horse in consequence.

Near the 150 Metres, ROBUST MOMENTUM was shifted in away from the heels of SPARKLING SWORD which was giving ground.

A veterinary inspection of SPARKLING SWORD and ROBUST MOMENTUM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

EXCELLENCE and SOUL ACHIEVER were sent for sampling.
