5 Australian Michelin-star chefs who have been making their mark around the world – including in Hong Kong and Singapore
Scattered across Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles and Sydney, we highlight chefs with Michelin-star worthy restaurants
While the coveted Michelin Guide has yet to cover the food scene in the land down under, Australian chefs have nonetheless been making their mark around the world. Here are five chefs who have earned Michelin stars, including two in Hong Kong.
Curtis Stone
Fans of Top Chef Masters may recognise chef Curtis Stone, who was the host of the popular series. He is also recognised for being a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice, as well as being the spokesman for Coles supermarkets, one of the largest chains in Australia. Chef Stone returned to his Aussie roots and opened Maude with his brother, Luke, which was named after their maternal grandmother. Two years later they opened Gwen, named after their paternal grandmother. When the Michelin Guide restarted in Los Angeles in 2019, Maude received a coveted star, proving Stone is just as much a chef as he is a celebrity.
Shane Osborn
Early in his career, chef Shane Osborn earned a Michelin star when he was part of the team of London’s (now closed) L’Oranger. He later went on to lead the kitchens of Pied a Terre in 2001 and kept its stars, eventually earning a second one in 2003.
Chef Osborn decided to move to Hong Kong and, after a stint at the short-lived St Betty, he opened up Arcane, serving up his signature contemporary cuisine. His hard work paid off when he won his first star in 2018. He also made an appearance on Netflix’s The Final Table, highlighting his skills and his restaurant on an international platform.
