  • The Titanic actress’ daughter with film director ex-husband Jim Threapleton kept her dad’s last name so she could prove herself in the Hollywood industry
  • She starred in her first role with her mum in A Little Chaos, but got a leading gig in Shadows (2020), while I Am and Dangerous Liaisons are set to release soon

Kate Winslet and her daughter with ex-husband Jim Threapleton will soon share the screen once more in British series I Am season three’s episode “I am Ruth”. According to IMDB, the mother-daughter duo previously starred in 2014 drama A Little Chaos together.

The episode will shed a light on the topic of online influencers and their impact on a mother-daughter relationship.

So what do we know about the 21-year-old rookie actress Mia Threapleton – who calls Winslet’s friend and former co-star Leonardo DiCaprio “uncle Leo”?

She’s always wanted to act

Despite having a famous actress mother and film director father, Threapleton didn’t grow up as a child actor, unlike some other kids also born into the industry. Winslet, who is herself notoriously private about her life, has kept her children away from the public eye and asserted no influence on their career choices.

Threapleton recalled to Variety that she didn’t often get to see her mother working when she was growing up, and on the rare occasions she did, “it was a special treat”.

Winslet shared in a 2014 interview with SBS News that, “All I ever hope is that they [her children] find lots of things they can do that they love, because then someday they’ll settle on one of them having experienced lots of other things along the way. Whereas, for me, I just loved acting. I loved it and still feel that way.”

The Titanic actress currently has three children from different marriages. She’d always felt that her eldest one, Mia, would go on to act though, coincidently following in her mother’s esteemed footsteps. “I think I knew it was coming, I always suspected. And then a few years ago she turned around and said, ‘I’d like to give it a go’,” she told British talk show Lorraine.

And right she was – but school came first. After Threapleton was “free of exam hell”, she was excited to finally start auditioning. “I just hoped I would get the chance to do what I had wanted to do for so long!” she told Variety.

She doesn’t need her mother’s stardom to shine
