4 fast facts about Ahn Bo-hyun, the Netflix’s My Name star who rose to fame on Descendants of the Sun and Yumi’s Cells – but did he really have a crush on Song Hye-kyo?

  • He’s appeared on Itaewon Class and acted alongside Song Joong-ki, but he also had to make ends meet as a construction worker and gas station part-timer

Ahn Bo-hyun first caught fans’ attention as Sergeant Lim Gwang-nam in the 2016 hit series Descendants of the Sun. Even though he only played a supporting role, his incredible talent, fit physique and charming good looks made him a memorable character to fans of the show.

Now, Ahn has shot up to leading man status with back-to-back roles as the straightforward game developer Goo Woong in Yumi’s Cells, and as police detective Jeon Pil-do in the hit Netflix action-thriller My Name.

So what do we know about him?

He doesn’t use a stunt double for action scenes

Ahn is an avid fan of boxing. In an interview with W Korea, he said that he first took up the sport in high school as a way to get free housing, but found that he was talented at the sport and continued to train. He eventually won a gold medal at a national competition for boxing, according to Soompi.

It should come as no surprise, then, that the star is famous for doing his own stunts. In a press conference for My Name, director Kim Jin Min praised the stars of the show, and said that “99 per cent of the [stunt] work was done by the actors on screen”.
