From K-pop idol to K-drama star – why Cha Eun-woo is someone to watch

He won over K-pop fans when in the band Astro, and starred in top K-dramas such as My ID Is Gangnam Beauty, but what else is there to know?
Cha Eun-woo became a household name thanks to his superb acting in top K-dramas such as My ID is Gangnam Beauty and Rookie Historian Hoo Hae Ryung. While he has been recognised by the acting industry, he is also a top idol from Astro, a South Korean boy band, too.
With his picture-perfect visuals and charming personality, Cha Eun-woo cemented his status as one to watch in the next decade. Here’s a look at the K-pop idol stealing hearts with every performance.
1. He was discovered on the way to the bathroom
After witnessing his performances, one would think Cha Eun-woo was born to be a star. However, he didn’t aspire to become an actor or a pop star.
In an interview with KBS, Cha Eun-woo said he was coincidentally discovered by an eagle-eyed agent. He tells KBS World: “Someone followed me when I was going to the restroom and cast me.”
Becoming a singer was not his childhood dream, he added. Instead, he considered becoming a doctor, judge or prosecutor.
2. He experienced difficulties as a trainee
Cha Eun-woo also experienced many hardships along his career path. During his trainee years, he was nervous about weekly and monthly evaluations, but he learned important life lessons along the way. “Looking back on when I was a trainee, rather than learning how to dance or sing or other skills, I learned patience and persistence,” he told SBS.
3. He is a versatile actor
