Lemon water is touted by celebrities as a health booster, but how good can it be?
Loved by the famous, used for millennia in Ayurvedic medicine, the health benefits of drinking lemon water examined
Touted by athletes, supermodels and pop stars as a way to maintain their looks and health, lemon water has become a must-have daily elixir for people.
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen told People magazine in 2016 that she started each day with a lukewarm glass of lemon water. In 2022, singer Beyoncé invested in lemon water brand Lemon Perfect, saying it “allows choosing a healthier lifestyle to be affordable and accessible to everyone”.
Much less shouting has been done about the drink’s actual benefits, however.
Lemon water, which is simply water with lemon juice in it, does have many benefits, in fact, and may bring the best results if it is drunk in the morning, according to the US-based Cleveland Clinic.
It’s a good way to hydrate your body when you wake up, it says. Plus, the lemon boosts your vitamin C intake before you start your day. And as lemon may have health benefits for your digestive system, it’s good to drink on an empty stomach.
