PHILIP WOO’S FORMLINE
Sharpen Bright built on seconds in back-to-back runs following a gear change with a 2,200m neck success from behind midfield over Reach Goal before a closing fourth to Winning Steps from gate 12 over this C&D. He must have claims. Reach Goal steps out for a new trainer but has been threatening to salute with seconds in back-to-back runs, including a neck effort behind Sharpen Bright after a mid-race move latest over the 2,200m. He was runner-up in his only previous go over the 2,000m. Romantic Fantasy has faltered in front in his past two starts after a third-up win over the 2,200m but should give a better sight with a five-pound claimer in play from gate one. Gold Tack returned to form with a hard-charging second over the Valley 1,800m and should handle the extra 200m.
TROUBLE IN RUNNING
ESCAPE ROUTE (E273) approaching the 350M was bumped on two occasions - Race 560.
DARCI JOY (E161) bumped shortly after the start. Approaching the 1800M, when being steadied to obtain cover, got its head up when racing keenly. Near the 500M lay out and then blundered badly when positioned close to a runner, resulted in the horse losing ground. After the race, rider stated that his intention was to hold a more forward position, but his mount jumped only fairly, made contact with a runner and then when caught wide he was obliged to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages to obtain cover. Noted to have lost its left hind plate after the race - Race 560.
JUMBO FORTUNE (G195) jumped only fairly - Race 586.
REACH GOAL (G067) was slow to begin - Race 533.
SHARPEN BRIGHT (H276) from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 500M was steadied and shifted out. Shifted in inside the 100M and made contact with a runner - Race 560.
CHATEAU LE PECHE (H471) bounded on jumping, resulted in its rider becoming unbalanced. Briefly held up near the 400M. Inside the 100M was bumped - Race 560.
SPECIAL HEDGE (H354) post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 560.
GOLD TACK (H106) shortly after the start was bumped - Race 592.
SUNNY BABY (E166) from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 500M was steadied to avoid a runner and shifted to that runner's inside - Race 560.
LEGION OF MERIT (D419) approaching the 350M was held up behind a runner and then shifted to that runner's outside to obtain clear running and made contact with another runner on two occasions when being shifted out. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Home Straight and the reason he elected to shift out, rider stated that due to the early pace of the event being run inside of standard time, he was concerned that had he remained racing to the inside of a runner, he may have experienced difficulty obtaining clear running due to another runner giving ground. He said for that reason he elected to come to the outside of the aforementioned runner as he felt that runner would provide him with the opportunity to improve into the event - Race 560.
TRACKWORK HIGHLIGHT
Reach Goal ran on solidly from near last for fifth in a Happy Valley trial on April 19.
