Recap by phillip woo

Ever consistent Shining On came with a bold move to grab victory 50m out following a rail run behind midfield for a third win from six starts this term. He's in terrific form and can win another. Happy Profit just got the head down for second after a prominent run. He took advantage of a better draw at his third start. Cheerful Leader finished strongly down the outside to just miss a placing after making his run third last and one off the fence from a wide gate. It was a return to form following a downgrade and step back in distance. Cantstopthefeeling found a few too smart after hitting the front 150m out following a speed-chasing run from a middle draw. It was a better effort with a return to the Valley. Mission Smart finished nicely to nearly fill the frame after settling last from the widest gate. It was a solid effort following fetlock arthroscopy in July. Favourite Happy Time weakened over the final 100m after leading from gate one. He had been restless before the start but isn't genuine. Firming late A Smile Like Yours was gone mid-race after getting caught wide without cover in a handy spot.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (393) - SHEK KIP MEI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

MISSION SMART was slow to begin.

E HONEY began only fairly.

MISTER ARM and SMART HUNTER bumped at the start.

CANTSTOPTHEFEELING and MULTIMORE also made contact on jumping.

From a wide barrier, CHEERFUL LEADER was shifted across behind runners soon after the start.

Approaching the first turn near the 1000 Metres, E HONEY got its head up when racing tight inside SHINING ON which lay in.

Rounding the first turn, SMART HUNTER raced keenly when being steadied to obtain cover.

Passing the 800 Metres, CHEERFUL LEADER got its head up when steadied away from the heels of SMART HUNTER.

Approaching the 400 Metres, SHINING ON and SMART HUNTER raced tight due to SHINING ON improving into tight running between SMART HUNTER and MISTER ARM.

Rounding the Home Turn, A SMILE LIKE YOURS was brushed by CANTSTOPTHEFEELING which shifted out around the heels of MULTIMORE to improve.

Just prior to straightening, MULTIMORE (M Chadwick), which commenced to come under pressure, shifted in and bumped with HAPPY PROFIT which became unbalanced.

M Chadwick was reprimanded for failing to straighten his mount in a more timely manner.

When being shifted out to obtain clear running in the early part of the Straight, SHINING ON lay in.

MISSION SMART was held up for a short distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres.

When placed under pressure passing the 200 Metres, CANTSTOPTHEFEELING shifted in and inconvenienced HAPPY PROFIT.

After being held up for clear running behind HAPPY TIME passing the 150 Metres, MISTER ARM was then shifted out around the heels of that horse prior to the 100 Metres, resulting in E HONEY, which was making ground, being inconvenienced.

M F Poon (MISSION SMART) was warned against the practice of using his whip forward of the saddle.

After the race, J Moreira stated that after being ridden along to obtain a forward position, A SMILE LIKE YOURS was forced to race wide and without cover and due to the hard run the horse endured through the early and middle stages was unable to close off the race in the Straight and weakened.

A veterinary inspection of A SMILE LIKE YOURS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Also after the race, B Shinn stated that he had to ride HAPPY TIME along to take up the lead as intended.

He said the horse travelled comfortably in the lead, however, was most disappointing in the manner in which it failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of HAPPY TIME immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY TIME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HAPPY TIME, SHINING ON and HAPPY PROFIT were sent for sampling.
