Asia is an incredibly important market for the textile industry – one where consumers are increasing in wealth and social awareness and prepared to demand that the products they buy are not only of high quality but from sustainable sources.

One of the businesses meeting this demand is Lenzing Group, the international fibre manufacturing company headquartered in Austria, with multiple production sites throughout Asia, including India, Indonesia, China, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Turkey.

The fibre production company, Lenzing Group, has adopted a ‘People, Planet and Profit’ strategy, which includes using sustainable and efficient practices to increase productivity and quality while decreasing the textile industry’s carbon footprint.

This diverse presence means that the company is well placed to meet rising demand from both global and regional brands.

The focus of Lenzing’s strategy is “People, Planet and Profit”, and this is reflected in its two innovation centres in Asia – the Lenzing Center of Excellence (LCOE) in Indonesia, and the Application Innovation Center (AIC) in Hong Kong.

At the LCOE, Lenzing has teamed up with machine manufacturers to create more efficient machinery with the goal of increasing productivity and decreasing the carbon footprint left by earlier, inefficient models or manufacturing techniques. The facility currently specialises in developing new yarns and fabrics both in-house and in collaboration with Lenzing’s mill partners.

At the AIC, more sustainable products are being fostered through strong partnerships with mill factories, as well as brands and retailers, to develop new fabric materials, applications or processing methods.

Lenzing recognises the importance of collaborating with others in the pursuit of sustainability and in meeting the needs of their customers.

The Lenzing Center of Excellence, located in Indonesia, specialises in developing new yarns and fabrics.

While the fabrics being created must be sustainable, Lenzing’s customers still expect unparalleled quality. With this in mind, the company ensures that all of its partnerships are committed to customer-centric practices.

To offset the carbon footprint needed to obtain natural fibres, Lenzing has developed its own technology, which ensures the minimal use of natural resources, such as water and chemicals.

The result are fibres which are 100 per cent biodegradable, with most of the chemicals used in the production process recyclable.

Lenzing has been collaborating with its Asian mill partners to develop sustainable practices in the production of new fabrics, applications and processing methods.

The high quality, biodegradability and compostable nature of Lenzing’s fibres make them suitable for hygiene products and agricultural applications – new business areas in which Lenzing is now investing.

By leading the charge in the textile and non-woven industry, Lenzing continues to focus its strategy on innovation and sustainability.

With a diverse range of expertise in multiple fields, Lenzing ensures a healthy exchange and infusion of both local and global ideas, which results in a more efficient and sustainable approach to textiles and non-woven products
