Worlds collide when mahou shoujo (magical girls genre) meets the boy band genre in the new anime Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love! (Cute High Earth Defence Club Love!). This comedy is sort of like Sailor Moon, but starring male characters from shows such as Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) and Ouran High School Host Club

The Earth Defence Club are five boys who don't really do anything. One day, two of the members, Atsushi and En are in a public bath house, when an alien that looks like a pink wombat approaches, and asks them to help save Earth.

Freaked out, the boys escape when the bath house owner's son, Yumoto, starts chasing after the pink wombat wanting to cuddle it.

The next day, Atsushi and En meet their friends to discuss formally declaring themselves as a school club so they can use a meeting room.

Suddenly the pink wombat bursts into the room and slaps bracelets on all of their wrists.

These "lovracelets" give the boys the power of "love" and transform them into the "Battle Lovers" so they can defeat the evil the "Earth Conquering Club", made up of three student council members and a green alien hedgehog.

This very funny parody is a must-watch for Otaku, if just for the cheesy laugh factor alone - and there is a lot of cheese in this witty tongue-in-cheek show. So for laugh-out-loud fun, keep an eye out for Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu Love! on local anime channels.
