Taeyang of K-pop group Big Bang drives crowds wild at AsiaWorld-Expo [Review]
Taeyang gave the audience exactly what they wanted when he performed at the AsiaWorld-Expo Hall.Taeyang, one of the most popular members of the huge K-pop group Big Bang, is on his first ever solo world tour for his new solo album Rise - and the first stop was here in Hong Kong.
The concert was held at AsiaWorld-Expo. When I entered the concert hall, I was stunned to find out that Taeyang's parents were there watching him, too. They were actually sitting quite far from the stage - maybe because they didn't want to get stampeded by screaming fans.
As soon as the lights dimmed, the thousands of fangirls turned on their crown-shaped Big Bang torches and the sold-out hall was lit up with a sea of yellow lights, the band's signature colour.
Then, the screen doors opened and there he was - shirtless and in tight golden trousers, which drove all the girls and even some older females crazy!
The atmosphere of the concert was incredible; despite the wide age gap between the fans, everyone sang along to the songs and cheered. Even though many fans couldn't properly pronounce or weren't entirely sure of the Korean lyrics, everyone still gave the songs their all, creating a sense of unity. When he sang his hit song Eyes, Nose, Lips, I felt like I was in a trance as everyone was just quietly singing along as they waved their torches.
Taeyang made an effort to be entertaining: at one point, he started free-styling in his best Cantonese, which surprised everyone and made them roar with laughter. Later there was a lucky draw, where he gave away his sneakers and his cap to members of the audience. He even joked that he would give away his underwear too!
Towards the end, he sang Big Bang's biggest hit, Fantastic Baby, and despite not having the other four members, it was still a flawless performance, and everyone sang along and danced crazily.
When he left, it was quiet for a while, but after the crowd started to chant for encores, he finally appeared again to sing Eyes, Nose, Lips again. And as if it couldn't get better, he sang it a capella. The concert hall echoed with everyone joining in.
With his perfect singing, amazing dance skills and the atmosphere of the concert, this was an unforgettable night. Taeyang totally surpassed my expectations as a one-man act.
