Everyone's favourite yellow henchmen are back! The first trailer for their stand-alone film Minions was released today and they are as adorable as ever. The movie is set as a prequel to Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 as fans finally get the chance to learn more about the characters.

From the trailer, we learn that the minions have actually been around since the time of dinosaurs. Before Gru, they served evil masters including pharaohs and Dracula, but none of these positions ended well for them. Their purpose is to "to serve the most despicable master around".

The minions find themselves in New York in 1968, determined to find the ultimate super-villian and their new master. The vocal talents of the latest banana-filled adventure include Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm and Steve Coogan.

The minions made their first appearance in 2010's Despicable Me which earned a total of more than US$543 million worldwide. The equally successful sequel, Despicable Me 2, was released in 2013 and earned more than US$970 million worldwide, making it the fourth highest-grossing animated film of all-time behind Frozen, Toy Story 3 and The Lion King.

Minions is scheduled for release on July 10, 2015 in the United States and the next sequel Despicable Me 3 in 2017.
