A Danish woman accused of appearing in an adult video shot in Bali is facing 10 years in jail as Indonesia ramps up their drive against poorly behaved foreigners to protect the image of its tourism industry.

Police said the suspect, identified only by her initials CAP, was arrested and charged for violating the anti-pornography law passed in 2008 which critics say contains vague aspects that are used to muzzle human rights.

Bali police spokesman Stefanus Satake Bayu said Article 36 of the legislation states that “any person exhibiting nudity, sexual exploitation, intercourse or other pornographic content in public could face a maximum 10 years in prison and/or a fine of 5 billion rupiah (US$334,000)”.

He said the 50-year-old exposed herself while riding pillion on a motorbike in a video which recently went viral after being shared by a popular social media influencer.

Stefanus added the footage was reportedly taken in December in Seminyak, a tourist hotspot in Bali, and an investigation was ongoing to determine the suspect’s motive.

Immigration officials said she was taken into custody at a hotel in the beach resort town of Legian last week, The Jakarta Post reported.

Officials also praised the role of the Balinese community in highlighting errant foreign visitors to the island that prompted the local government to rein in such travellers by deporting them.
