Trump-linked theme park in Indonesia drops Chinese cash, but trade war ‘nothing to do with it’
- Donald Trump Jnr says his father is not involved with the Trump Organisation’s real estate projects in Bali and West Java
- He also denies suggestions the company has profited from Trump Snr’s position as president of the United States
That is according to Donald Trump Jnr, who was in Jakarta on Tuesday to attend a pre-launch event for two real estate projects marking the US developer’s first foray into Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
The Trump Organisation is partnering with the Indonesian builder PT MNC Land, owned by media mogul and billionaire developer Hary Tanoesoedibjo, on two real estate projects in West Java and Bali to be financed with US$1.7 billion of MNC and other’s money and completed within the next three years.
One of the projects, in an area of West Java known as Lido, will include a Trump-branded resort alongside facilities planned by MNC that include a theme park twice as large as Universal Studios in Singapore and a golf course. Trump critics had been alarmed in May when MNC’s owner announced that China Metallurgical Corporation Group and Chinese Export and Credit Insurance were among the companies financing the development.
