Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered his first government work report at the annual National People’s Congress (NPC) on March 5, 2024. Li set out the central government’s development goals for 2024, including GDP growth by “around 5 per cent”, the creation of more than 12 million urban jobs, keeping the urban unemployment rate at 5.5 per cent and inflation at 3 per cent. The figures, which are the same as last year’s targets, come amid growing concerns about the state of the Chinese economy.
