Charles Kao
Charles Kao was a pioneer in the development and use of fibre optics in telecommunications. Born on November 4, 1933 and based in Hong Kong, Kao was co-awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics for "groundbreaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibres for optical communication". He died on September 23, 2018.
