Alibaba denies reports it is building a global headquarters in Singapore, saying development for Lazada subsidiary, other regional businesses
- Lazada, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Singapore, is one of Southeast Asia’s largest e-commerce platforms
- Alibaba has been headquartered in Hangzhou’s Xixi district, in the Future Science and Technology City, since 2013

An Alibaba representative said on Friday recent Chinese media reports that it was investing 8.4 billion yuan (US$1.2 billion) to build a new global headquarters in Singapore were “wrong and a misinterpretation”.
The person said that Alibaba is developing a building in the city state that will provide office space for some of its businesses in Southeast Asia, including Lazada Group. The person added that Alibaba’s global headquarters is and always will be in Hangzhou.
Lazada, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Singapore, is one of Southeast Asia’s largest e-commerce platforms. It was acquired by Alibaba, owner of the South China Morning Post, in 2016.
Alibaba’s denial of reports about building a new global headquarters in Singapore was first published on Friday by Qianjiang Wanbao, a provincial-level newspaper under state-owned Zhejiang Newspaper Media Holding.
