Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open: Shnaider blitzes Boulter to claim title in one-sided final
Diana Shnaider wins fourth WTA event of the year, needing little more than an hour to see off Katie Boulter in straight sets
Diana Shnaider swept aside Katie Boulter to claim the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open on Sunday, racing to a 6-1, 6-2 victory in a one-sided affair that lasted little more than an hour.
The Russian’s triumph at Victoria Park Tennis Stadium was her fourth WTA title of the year, adding to those she picked up at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Bad Homburg Open and the Trophee Clarins.
Boulter barely had a sniff of a chance, and lost her first service game in both sets against an opponent she had never played before on tour.
She was 5-0 down in the first set before she managed to hold a service game, and 4-0 down in the second before she finally got on the board.
“It feels amazing,” Shnaider said in a courtside interview. “I hope I will keeping going like this every season, I will do my best and work as hard as I can to achieve this.
“I’m very happy. It’s the last tournament of the season, and to finish it here, with a trophy, with my family, with this crazy atmosphere, it’s be an enjoyable week for me and so memorable too.”
