Chinese tennis legend Li Na is back at the All England Club ahead of a return to the hallowed turf of Wimbledon next week.
The 41-year-old was pictured alongside sporting royalty in Roger Federer – an eight time men’s champion at Wimbledon – and Lindsey Vonn during lunch in the members’ club on Wednesday.
The picture, posted by American Olympic skiing champion Vonn on her Instagram story and Twitter account, went viral on Chinese social media, with Li’s fans lapping up a rare glimpse of the retired star.
Two-time grand slam champion Li has over 21 million fans on the Twitter-like platform Weibo, but has not posted any content there for nearly three years.
Li, who hung up her racket in 2014 after winning her second major at the Australian Open, is back at Wimbledon for the first time in 5 years, and will partner her long-time friend and rival Agnieszka Radwanska in the ladies’ invitational doubles next week.
The 2011 French Open champion Li famously lost to Poland’s Radwanska, now 34, in the 2013 Wimbledon singles quarter-finals – after a controversial call in the first set – with many favouring her for the title that year.
