Zhang and partner Lucie Hradecka beat Sabrina Santamaria of the US and Miya Kato of Japan in three sets at the Tennis In The Land tournament on Tuesday.

The Chinese-Czech pair had to dig deep, coming back from a 6-2 first set loss to take the second set 6-2 before dominating the third set shoot-out 10-5.

That was the second win of the day for Zhang, who also triumphed in her women’s singles match against Italy’s Martina Trevisan.

Zhang won that in straight sets – 7-5, 6-1 – to move on to the round of 16 where she will face Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the US.
