Hong Kong Football Club head coach Jack Wiggins said it was the intangible additions to his team’s game that ended up helping them win the 2018/2019 rugby premiership title.

HKFC beat the USRC Tigers 39-22 on Saturday to lock down their first regular season title since 2011. Wiggins said it has been a process.

“We put a little bit more tactical and technical stuff around what [the team] have done before, the boys bought into it and earned the treats now.”

HK Scottish, who will finish second in the league standings, had led the table for most of the first part of the season, but have faltered as of late, leaving the door wide open for the HKFC.

Wiggins said they approached Saturday’s game knowing it would be a grind, as the last thing the Tigers would want to do is be the team to hand them the trophy, a squad that is fighting to get into the top four and in play-off contention.
