Recap by phillip woo

Excellence Value just scrambled in after hitting the lead 60m out following a box-seat run for a first win at his fourth local start. M Unicorn ran on nicely to finish a close second after a patient ride third last from gate five. He's always a chance over the Valley 1,650m. Aestheticism surged late down the outside to finish a close third after a patient ride two from the rear. He's honest as the day is long. Punted late, Samarkand ran on steadily for fourth without threatening the top three after a one-off trip from better than midfield. He rarely produces a bad run over this course. Ivy League knocked up late for fifth after getting his own way in front from gate two. He's not far off a ratings bottom. Devas Twelve was yielding ground late after moving to the lead 200m out following a pace-stalking run. He's a Class Four horse and prefers Sha Tin. Early favourite Glorious Success only plodded after improving from last to settle midfield on the fence 800m out. He ran below par with a switch to the Valley. Beato was a non-factor after travelling wide towards the rear from an outside draw.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (478) - TRANS-ISLAND CHINALINK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

Horse No 2 SAMARKAND (H070) L Hewitson When questioned, L Hewitson stated that his instructions were to hold an on-pace position and lead if the pace of the event allowed him to do so.

He said whilst SAMARKAND jumped well, when several runners drawn to his outside went forward, he elected to allow those runners to cross and settle slightly further back than had been anticipated.

Horse No 3 GLORIOUS SUCCESS (K062) R Moore Had its right hind plate refitted in the saddling stalls, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Jumped only fairly.

He said when IVY LEAGUE commenced well it led without being pressured to do so.
