Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Thesis travelled wide with cover from behind midfield, rushed to the lead 100m out and just held off the fast-finishing Flying Fortress by a lip for a first win at his 16th local start. Flying Fortress whizzed home late to just miss after switching off heels for a clear run with one wider out at the 200m following a patient ride at the rear form gate nine. Well-backed Courier Magic ran on nicely through the centre to finish a close third settling second last from gate 12. It was a solid effort following a stable change. Happy Daily ran on late for fourth after making his run two from the rear. He's held his condition well in back-to-back runs following a win. Downgraded Midori Fuji stayed on all right for fifth without threatening the top four after a handy run on the fence. He's still acclimatising but has shown flashes of ability in his four local runs. Youth Power ran on steadily without threatening after a one-off trip from midfield. Smart Fighter made a mild bid after a rails run from behind midfield. He's not a miler. Charming Steed was stopping near the 100m after getting pressured for the lead by Wah May Wai Wai.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (441) - THE ROTARY CENTENARY CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 FLYING FORTRESS (J445) H Doyle Jumped awkwardly.

From a wide barrier was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Held up for clear running on the Home Turn.

Between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the outside of HAPPY DAILY.

For a short distance after the 200 Metres raced greenly.

Near the 100 Metres lay in, resulting in its rider H Doyle having to stop riding and straighten her mount.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 HAPPY DAILY (E294) H Bentley Bumped approaching the 1400 Metres.

Horse No 3 MIDORI FUJI (J432) K Teetan On jumping bumped with YOUTH POWER and became unbalanced.

Horse No 4 SMART FIGHTER (H278) L Ferraris Jumped only fairly and was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Leaving the 400 Metres became unbalanced when racing tight to the inside of HIGHLAND RAHY.

After the event, L Ferraris confirmed that his instructions were to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages as SMART FIGHTER was stepping up in distance from the 1200 Metres in order to allow it to run out the 1650 Metres of tonight's event.

Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions and the reason why such instructions were issued.

Horse No 5 THESIS (H111) A Atzeni Approaching the 1400 Metres made contact with HAPPY DAILY when racing tight to the inside of PERFECTO MOMENTS.

Approaching the 700 Metres was momentarily crowded between YOUTH POWER which shifted out slightly and PERFECTO MOMENTS which shifted in.

Over the concluding stages brushed with COURIER MAGIC due to both runners shifting ground.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 HIGHLAND RAHY (J298) L Hewitson After the event, L Hewitson stated that his mount raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

He added in the Home Straight he was held up for clear running behind WAH MAY WAI WAI before being checked away from that runner approaching the 250 Metres.

He said as a result his mount finished the race off only fairly thereafter.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 WAH MAY WAI WAI (J193) M Chadwick After the event, M Chadwick stated that from a wide barrier he was obliged to make too much use of his mount in the early stages to cross to race outside the lead and this was the reason it gave ground when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 CHARMING STEED (E494) E C W Wong After the event, Apprentice E C W Wong stated that his mount raced "flat" tonight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 FIREFOOT (J183) A Badel After the event, A Badel stated that his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event and this was the reason why it did not run on in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 YOUTH POWER (H358) M L Yeung Bumped at the start.

Near the 1400 Metres raced in restricted room to the inside of FIREFOOT when that runner was taken in slightly by WAH MAY WAI WAI which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.
