Rocket Spade turned the final bend two from the rear and showed a good turn of foot with one wider out to get up by a lip. He was able to build on back-to-back thirds in this grade following a win in Class Four. Samarkand was just pipped on the wire after moving to the lead 100m out following a box-seat run. He is always chance when drawing an inside gate. Toy Soltero just held on for third after poking his head in front 250m out following a speed-tracking run. It was a vastly improved effort. Sharpen Bright stayed on well to just miss a placing after a prominent run wide without cover from gate 11. It was another fine effort. Fortune Superstar grudgingly gave way after dictating the run from gate two. He might be one to keep safe shortly down in Class Four. Punted late Comet Splendido ran on steadily to just miss the frame after a rails run from behind midfield. He rarely produces a bad run over this course. Winning Steps was doing his best work late after a patient ride second last from gate seven. He couldn't offset a rise in weight following a last-start win. Chain Of Gold never came on from the rear.

Race Nine : (220) - INVERNESS HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1800Meters

Horse No 1 CALIFORNIA VOCE (H258) B Avdulla Near the 300 Metres improved into a narrow run between SHARPEN BRIGHT and HAMERON and then raced tight between those runners in the Home Straight.

Over the concluding stages was steadied when crowded between SHARPEN BRIGHT and HAMERON which was taken in slightly by ROCKET SPADE (H Bowman).

H Bowman was advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 2 HAMERON (H265) C Y Ho Over the concluding stages could not be ridden out when racing tight to the inside of ROCKET SPADE.

Horse No 3 SAMARKAND (H070) C L Chau Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 CHAIN OF GOLD (J138) Z Purton From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

When placed under pressure in the Home Straight lay in.

After the event, Z Purton stated that his mount finished the race off in a satisfactory manner and in the circumstances he was not too disappointed with its performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 ILLUMINOUS (J170) J McDonald Jumped only fairly.

Near the 450 Metres shifted out and made contact with SHARPEN BRIGHT.

Near the 150 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running between SHARPEN BRIGHT and TOY SOLTERO and in this incident made contact with SHARPEN BRIGHT.

After the event, J McDonald stated that his mount raced in a disappointing manner and could offer no explanation for its performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 ROCKET SPADE (G170) H Bowman Bumped shortly after the start.

Horse No 9 SHARPEN BRIGHT (H276) M F Poon Shortly after the start shifted in and was bumped.

Near the 450 Metres was bumped by ILLUMINOUS which shifted out to improve.

Horse No 10 ACE WAR (J509) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 12 TOY SOLTERO (J268) B Thompson After the event, B Thompson stated that his instructions were to endeavour to find a position with cover.

He said when caught wide in the early stages and unable to comply with those instructions, he allowed TOY SOLTERO to stride forward to avoid covering additional ground and as a result raced outside the lead in a more forward position.
