Recap by phillip woo
Early favourite Happy Angel chased the speed one off the fence, claimed the lead 650m out and kept on gamely under Matthew Chadwick's urgings in the straight to post his first Hong Kong win on his 26th local start. He was overdue after recording eight minor placings last term. Win Win Fighter ran on well with two gallopers wider out to finish a close second. He built on his unlucky run two weeks earlier. He could break through soon. Post-time favourite Right As Rain ran on steadily to finish a close third after his prominent run. He should strip fitter second up. Wonder Years circled the field under the whip to go from last to second during the race's middle stages. He whacked on one-paced to finish the next best without threatening the top three. He is a 2,200m specialist. AI One ran on steadily from near last. He is not good enough at this level. Nice Birdie tamely faded after clearing to the lead 1,250m out. He has been disappointing in both of his starts this season. He looks destined for Class Five. Circuit Elite could have led but Angus Chung Yik-lai elected to settle him in third. He went backwards in the run to the wire.
